Straight Down.

Behind The Image

“This one was a bit of a long hike to the top of the mountain. It is one anybody can do, but it feels quite a bit more difficult with camera gear strapped to your back.” -Robert Lowdon

There are many opportunities to experience hiking on the approximately 200 kilometers of hiking trails. Some trails take only a few hours to complete, while others take one or two days. There are trails for the novice, intermediary and experienced hiker and options to take a guided hiking trail. All of the trails offer the opportunity of experiencing the photogenic landscape that may include views of wildlife, mountains, waterfalls, forests, valleys and alpine meadows. Common wildlife of this national park includes deer, bears, wolves, coyotes, cougars, elk, golden eagles and over 250 varieties of other birds.

Straight Down captures an almost three dimensional birds-eye view of what can be seen from the mountainous landscape overlooking the village of Waterton Lakes. In the foreground, white fluffy clouds float in a blue coloured sky, and mountains are dotted with forests and surrounded by fog and mirror-like water. Viewing this photograph, you can almost feel the wind and sun on your face and hear the wind whistling through the trees and across the rocky surface at your feet.

A straight up hour long hike to the top of this mountain seemed impossible with camera gear on my back and a dog in tow. There is something to be said about perseverance and the rewards it reaps. A warm sunny morning, wind on my face, and a quiet other-worldly view.
