Several months ago we conducted a multi day commercial photography shoot for Emergent Biosolutions at there medical facility. Most of the images were to be used in annual reports as well as advertising. The shoot comprised of two days, in various locations around the plant, laboratories and office spaces.
In all of the images you will see, I used either artificial light (elinchrom strobes), natural light or a combination of both. I am using a lot of lighting tricks, to make the images both look bright and dynamic.
I like to use lighting to focus the viewers attention on what I am trying to highlight in the image. Think of it as composition with lighting. All of the flairs, reflection and bursts of light the viewers is is seeing is completely intentional.
In all of these images I want real, honest emotions from the subjects. All of the models / people are actual employees. There is something to be said about creating authentic photographs. I like to think it is the reason that our clients choose us.
For this shoot it was vital to capture the working environment in the photographs. Sometimes available light was appropriate for the vision of the project other times it was not at all. This is why as a photographer it is so important to know lighting, both artificial and available.
Finally, it is so important to not go to far with lighting effects. The client is not looking for a fashion shoot, or an over done image that makes no sens. We use lighting to create dynamic images that the viewer can relate to. And, of course, this is only a small offering of the final images that were delivered.
I hope you liked what you are have seen. Do you have questions about how we can help your company craft its visual identity? Send us a message and we would be happy to help.
