After Sunset Banff National Park

BEHIND THE IMAGE

There is an interesting phenomena that can happen when the sun sets in the mountains. It is called Alpenglow and you can catch it in After Sunset in Banff National Park. Alpenglow happens just after the sun falls below the horizon and the mountains become illuminated in a reddish glow. Alpenglow is breathtaking to see, and one of the best sites to view Alpenglow is at the Banff Gondola.

Banff National Park is known for its spectacular sunsets. The mountains and lakes found in this area heighten the beauty of the sunset as it reflects off of its mountainous jagged peaks and the pristine waters of its glacier lakes. Tourists and artists flock to this area of the country to experience and capture sunsets and many participate in Banff’s Alpenglow festival. There are many sites in this national park to view sunsets, but some of the most highly rated are found at Vermilion Lakes, Two Jack Lake, Lake Minnewanka, Lake Louise and Castle Mountain.

The beauty of a mountain sunset is found in this photograph, After the Sunset in Banff National Park. The moon is poised in the centre of the night sky, the tops of the mountains are illuminated in a reddish glow, and the remainder of the mountains and forest are cloaked in darkness. All of the beauty of this vista is captured perfectly in the still waters below. Viewing this photograph, you can feel the chill in the air, smell the lush forest and breath in the stillness of this magnificent landscape.
