Today on the blog I am posting several photos from two different industrial photography shoots from Southern Ontario. Both of these construction site shoots, in addition to commercial photography, I also included commercial video as requested by the client. I will be posting these videos at a later point in time.
I really wanted the purpose of this shoot to be about the people involved in building these projects. In addition to this goal, It is always great when I get a chance to photograph a building before it is complete. Also, then of course photographing the building when it is completed is great too. Have a look through the images. I am pretty sure who the client is will become pretty obvious once you scroll through this blog post. Since this shoot completed, I have done several other photography projects for this same client. I plan on posting more construction projects in the near future.
Photographing construction really requires combining several different types of photography. I am using architecture for the construction site itself. Portraiture for the people, and a whole bunch of different editorial techniques. The goal is to create a fine balance between editorial and advertising. I don’t want the images to look overly faked or staged, but I also don’t want to make them look like they were shot for the newspaper. Let me elaborate, there is nothing wrong with newspaper photography, it is just a different style.
I’ve always preferred to use real people in my photography, and there was no difference with this shoot. There is an honestly with the photographs, something in the eyes. This is often just not there with models.
