Tip top storefront.

I recently photographed a newly renovated store for Tip Top Tailors. The goal was to show the off the new store to both new and existing customers.

Wide view of storefront.

I am photographing the store using variations of wide, medium and close up detail shots. The store has a lot of interesting features, which leads to really interesting foreground elements.

Long view of store.

More and more I like straight on wide shots (above). They pretty are hard to pull off without distortion, but they produce a really natural looking image. These store interiors can vary a bit from office interiors. There is a lot more going on visually.

Clothing on tables.

Waiting area.

Each of these images is being “lit up” by two different strobe lights. I like the lighting more for contrast and direction rather than necessity. The images look crisp, and dynamic.

Pos machines

I think anytime a client places unique objects in a store it just adds to the customer experience. These plants pictured above, really added a note of home. I also, find the green of the plants help ground the colorful palette of the clothing items with the mostly neutral paint colors of the store.

Almost all of the lighting in the store is balanced to daylight (5500k). They are using two different types of architectural lighting – direction led, and tungsten lighting in the fixtures. It accentuates the glowing orange of the tungsten balanced lighting.

Straight on shot of opposing wall.

Tie display with shirts in back.

Shirts in the foreground with sock display in corner.

View behind sales counter.

Tailoring and alteration section.

Colorful thread on display on wall. Sometimes small details can make a big difference to a customer.

Case Study: High-end Lighting Photography for Louis Poulsen

Case Study: High-end Lighting Photography for Louis Poulsen

The following is a case study about a high-end lighting photography project we completed for Louis Poulsen, a Danish lighting manufacturer. Louis Poulsen worked with a residential homeowner in Southern Ontario to outfit their luxury home with unique fixtures and a complete lighting system. The goal of the project was to capture the statement pieces installed in a real setting, as well as show the cohesive design plan across the entire interior & exterior of the home.
